Dear Parents,
Welcome!! We hope that you and your child’s adjustment
to Kindergarten have gone smoothly!
The contents of this packet are usually
not given out until Back to School Night, however, we feel that it may be more
helpful to you if we send it home earlier.
Included in this packet is general information
regarding the Kindergarten program, Kindergarten schedules, a book list,
academic information, and an Expectation sheet.
There are two sheets we would appreciate
if you would return by Monday, September 15th. The first paper is the Kindergarten
Information Sheet with the
The reason we are sending these papers
now is so you may review them before Back to School Night and have any
questions, concerns, or suggestions ready for discussion. We are asking for the Expectation Sheet early
so that we may be prepared to answer any questions, concerns, or suggestions
that night.
Remember that Back to School Night is on
Wednesday, September 17th.
The K1 and
We look forward to hearing from you and
meeting you!!
Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Teachers
** Please remember this is a time for parents and teachers, the children are NOT to attend.
1)
Reminder: The
following items are due: (Please write your child’s name)
a) $10.00 to cover school supplies for
the year
b) Two boxes of facial tissues and two
rolls of paper towels (we may ask for
donations of more later in the year).
c) One lunchbox with child’s name and
grade
d) Clorox wipes
e) A box of Band-aides
f) One backpack large enough to hold a
folder and a journal
** If you are able, a donation of liquid soap
would be greatly appreciated!!
2)
All money
that is sent to school MUST be enclosed in an envelope. Please
mark the outside with your child’s name,
grade, and what the money is for.
Separate envelopes should be provided for each item and each child since
the money is sent to various places.
3)
Now that the
school year is underway, please allow your child to enter the
class by him/herself. This will help them to become more
responsible. It will
also make their adjustment to Kindergarten
easier.
4)
As it upsets
children to lose their belongings, please help by labeling ALL of
your child’s things, jackets, lunchboxes,
sweaters, etc. Self-care will be
stressed at school, so please help your child to learn to zip, button, and put
on their own clothing.
5)
Please be
sure to carefully read the Student and Parent Handbook. The rules in the Handbook have been gone over
with the children, but please review it with them again at home. Conduct
referrals, demerits, and Saturday detentions will be given to children who exhibit
behavior that does not coincide with the Handbook. The first page of the Handbook MUST be sent back to school with you
and your child’s signature. If the
form was sent with an older sibling, please let us know.
6)
Due to
limited space in our lockers and cubbies, we do not use pillows for nap, or
blankets. As stated in the handbook, no
toys are to be brought to school.
7)
Lunches are
kept in lunchboxes until lunch. If you
have items you think may spoil, you may want to invest in an “ice-pack” to keep food
cold. Please provide a drink for your
child, unless they are getting milk. No
glass bottles are allowed, and we ask that you not send soda. Please make sure your child has a
napkin or spoon if needed. Please
remember that we do not have access to a microwave for the children, so please
pack lunches accordingly.
8)
Your child
will need a nutritional morning snack included in their lunchbox. Some type of fruit, yogurt, crackers, or
vegetable that may be eaten within ten minutes.
This will include
9)
For your
child’s birthday you may send in MINI cupcakes,
brownies, cookies or donut holes. NO CAKES OF ANY KIND. Mini cupcake molds are available upon
request. Please give at least 3 days notice so we can arrange a time
for this special occasion. Remember, we
are not having a birthday party at school, just a small recognition of your
child’s special day!!
10)The morning bell rings at
11)We will give you a copy of our schedule
at Back to School Night. Please be sure to follow the Handbook
regarding the proper attire for your child.
12)All classwork
will be sent home daily in their folders.
13)Homework will be given starting in
October. It will include short, simple
activities that supplement work covered in class. Homework will be given on a weekly basis. The assignments will include worksheets
pertaining to current areas of study as well as assignments that will need to
be completed in some type of bound book.
As long as the book has the larger lines to help the
children write, it is acceptable.
This is a requirement, and failure to hand in homework will result in a
lack of privileges until work is completed.
14)If there is a change in your child’s
home environment which may affect your child’s behavior/performance in school
and you feel comfortable doing so, please let us know. This will help us better understand changes
in behavior/attitude and also assist in helping the child cope and understand
the matter.
15)If you have any questions or would like
to let us know something concerning your child, please send in a note or call
the office and leave a message.
Unfortunately, since we MUST give the children ALL of our attention to
set the mood for the day, we are not able to meet with you at the door, which
is why we ask that you leave a message or write a note. We are available for conferences, with requests
given at least two days in advance, from
16)Report cards will be distributed in
January and June. Conferences will be
held in January.
17)Children returning after an absence are
REQUIRED to bring in a note to
explain the reason for the absence. If
you need to pick your child up early, please send in a note explaining
this. Your child will be waiting for you
at the office. If someone other than
yourself is picking your child up, please state that person on the Information
Sheet and notify us of any changes.
18)Remember ALL clothing must be labeled.
Children enrolled in aftercare may bring a change of clothes in their
backpacks.
We are very excited about the new
school year. If there is anything we can
do for you please let us know!! We are
here for you and your child.
Thank
You (in advance) for your understanding and cooperation!!
