Spelling Activity Options

Below is a list of activities you can do with your spelling words for homework.  Choose four different activities to complete each week (or three, depending on the week).  This will be completed in your spelling copybook and turned in on Friday. Please post this at home to refer to each week. Occasionally you will see “Teacher’s Choice”. Please do the option assigned by the teacher. Always underline your spelling words!

What Do I Do?

1

Rainbow Writing

Write your spelling words in pencil and then use two or three different colored crayons to trace over the words.

Spelling Stairs

Write the first letter of your word, then on the next line, write the first two letters of your word.  Continue doing this until you have the word spelled. Do this for all of the spelling words.

Red Vowels

Write your words in pencil.  Then trace over the vowels with a red pencil, pen, or                        crayon.

Consonant Circles

Write your words in pencil.  Then circle the consonants with a pen, colored pencil, marker,

 or crayon.

Salt Writing

  Ask a parent to pour some salt on a cookie sheet and write your spelling words in                                 the salt. A parent has to sign in your copybook that you completed this.

Shaving Cream Writing

Ask a parent to put some shaving cream on a cookie sheet and then write your spelling                                words in the shaving cream. A parent has to sign in your copybook that you completed this.

Computer Writing

Type your words on the computer, print them out and paste (or staple) into your copybook.

ABC Order

Write all your spelling words in ABC order.

Rhyming Words

Write your spelling words and next to them write a rhyming word.  Example:  men-

pen   Underline your spelling words.

Glue It Writing

Cut out letters from newspapers, magazines or make different kinds on the

computer.  Glue them to your paper to write your spelling words.

Story Time

Use any five of your spelling words and write them in a story. Be sure to give your story a title.

Three Times

Write all of your spelling words three times each.

Sentences

Choose any five spelling words and write them in sentences.
