Math: Please purchase math flash cards for addition
and subtraction and work with your
child on learning these facts
prior to entering third grade. We will be
working on multiplication and division as the year progresses, so the purchase
of multiplication and division flash cards would also be helpful. Multiplication and division facts need to be
learned prior to entering fourth grade.
Reading: Have your child read every day. Books, newspapers, magazines, or anything
else will do. It is
extremely
important that your child read orally for about 10 minutes 4-5 times a
week. Also, test
your child
to see if he/she understands what has been read. Please take time to listen to your child
read
orally. Don’t make it a chore, though,
but an enjoyable time together.
Writing: Have your child keep a journal. Each day, your child can make an entry about
something
interesting
that happened or something interesting that was seen. Maybe your child will just write
a poem or a
short story. Your child can draw a
picture to go along with his/her writing.
Also,
have your
child practice manuscript handwriting so that it is neat and the letters are
formed
correctly. The students will learn cursive handwriting
in third grade and will be writing in cursive
second
semester.
A
good book to purchase that reviews skills learned in 2nd grade, is Summer Bridge Activities (the one for 2nd
to 3rd grade). This book may
be purchased at area bookstores. Barnes
& Nobles have them and if they are out of stock
will order them for you.
Below
is the list of school supplies that are required for students in the third
grade. Please confine your purchases to
the supplies listed. You will be
informed of any other materials that are needed as the year progresses. Please bring these supplies to school the
first week of school. Do NOT purchase
3-ring binders. Thank you for your
cooperation.
