THIRD GRADE NEWSLETTER

for May 7-12, 2012

 

Reading: We will continue a unit on fairy tales with writing our own fairy tales using the elements we learned. 

English: We will review chapter 9.  There will be a test over this chapter on Wednesday, May 9.  Next, we will begin chapter 10 and discuss indirect objects covering pages 271-275.

Spelling: We will work with adding –ing and –ed to words.  There will not be any spelling homework or quiz/test this week.

History: We will complete a timeline for events covered this year and discuss King Arthur.

Math: We will review ordered pairs, probability, and problem solving.  Power Up/Cumulative 21 Assessment will be on May 7.  Students must memorize multiplication and division facts. 

Science: We will review food chains and webs.  There will be a unit test over food chains/webs on Tuesday, May 8.

Latin: We will review derivatives and vocabulary.  There will be a vocabulary quiz on May 17.

 

SNACKS: We have a snack break every day. Snacks should be healthy. Some suggestions are: popcorn, pretzels, fruit, vegetables, yogurt, cheese, and crackers. Remember that candy, cookies, cake, chips, donuts, brownies, etc. are NOT to be eaten for snack. Juice or water may also be part of snack.

 

Request:  We are almost out of cleansing wipes.  If you could send in a container it would be greatly appreciated.  Please no facial or baby wipes.

Monday, June 4 – 4th Quarter Awards Assembly 1:00 pm in the church

Tuesday, June 5 – Grades 3-6 to National Zoo

Wednesday-Thursday, June 6-7 – 1:00 pm Dismissals

Friday, June 8 – Last Day of School with 11 am dismissal (report cards will be mailed)

 

Scrabble Club:  For those already registered, Scrabble Club will meet Monday, May 14 from 3:20-4:20 p.m. in the 3rd grade classroom.  This will be our last meeting for this school year.
